At a customer site I recently ran into an issue in their PS 4.5 farm (PS 4.5 with HRP1 and AMC 4.6 updates). The issue manifests itself as certain icons appears a black squares. The strange part is the icon doesn’t look like a black square while you’re adding the published app, but the minute you click Finish to save the published application, you see the AMC display it in all of it’s blackness like so:
If you then go to view one of these icons in Web Interface, you’ll see it show up like this:
Obviously this will result in confusion for the admin as well as frustrated users since they won’t be able to easily identify their icons. The root cause of this issue is an apparently conflict between the fact that the AMC can only display 4-bit (16-color) icons and some ICO files not containing a 4-bit version of the icon for the AMC to sample. I think this issue was complicated by the fact that PS 4.5 and WI 4.5/4.6 now support high color icons. My guess is something in the AMC code isn’t right with respect to sampling the reduced color depth icons. You can read a more detailed explanation of the issues with the 4.6 AMC here and here.
The fix is to obtain limited release hotfix PSE450R01W2K3032 which I’ve confirmed does resolve the issue. Let’s hope a public version is released soon! BTW, don’t bother emailing me to ask for the hotfix as I can’t hand it out. If you need this hotfix, you can call Citrix Support to obtain it.
